Of Honours and Dictators

Well, apparently we are a nation that is compassionate about the affairs of others. I am not referring to the recent Budget 2014 because that’s just a whole pile of hogwash unless everything is implemented fairly to all the citizens of this wonderful nation. The day that happens.Anyway, what I am referring to is the recent move by one private university not many outside the confines of Malaysia to award a certain doctorate to a certain dictator in a certain North Korea. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, you heard me right:“HELP UNIVERSITY AWARDED A DOCTORATE OF ECONOMICS TO NONE OTHER THAN KIM JONG-UN”So, the next question is, “What in %^$#@ name provoked such an action?” To be fair, I am neither for or against this action. I am actually looking to investigate the pros and the cons of such an action and try to justify such a brash move.Let’s start with the PROS:1. A Sign of Friendship?Firstly, I can only think of one which is actually a sign of friendship between the two nations. Per…

Silver Linings of Cancer

Fellow readers especially fellow bloggers, here’s a write-up by my friend Richard regarding extending a helping hand to the warriors fighting a war against cancer. Many have lost the war but before the weapon to obliterate this illness is found, let’s help those who are still fighting it as best we can. I appeal to you, my fellow bloggers and friends to spend 5 minutes of your time to read this. Every bit of help counts. Thank you for your time, ladies and gentlemen:Despite the unpleasant journey of battling cancer, it brings out the best in humankind as well. In today's society, families are divided by work and other personal commitments. Family time becomes more and more rare, sacrificed for the a growth in career and the pursuit of a different life. We become complacent with our families, thinking that our parents will not fall sick and not age, always be there for us just like the old times.Life takes a hair-pin turn when cancer visits. On the bright side, there are more famil…

Marquee–A Little Escapade

So, where are we going this time for our little VibeHero escapade? From Latin Food, we head to a Fusion Cuisine. Where you may ask? None other than Marquee, one of the coolest and hippest restaurants and bars this side of town. The name may be hard to pronounce for some of the infantile speakers but all you need to know is that it two floors of pure awesome. So, where is Marquee? BB Plaza. Where is BB Park? Now, fellow readers. That is the correct question. At night, it is close to impossible for you to miss this signboardTo many of you BB Plaza is an interesting shopping mall in Bukit Bintang. However, BB Park is located adjacent to it. Look for an open air street mall somewhere next to BB Plaza. If you are driving down Jalan Bukit Bintang, you will be able to see it on your left. Directly after you see it, there should be a left turn. Turn in, follow the route and you should come up behind the Federal Hotel. If you are intending to find a parking, I would highly recommend parking in Lo…

Taking the First Step

One question that I am constantly asked is, “How do you make friends with people?” People tend to think that I have tonnes of friends primarily because I have previously had a high-ranking position or that I have involved myself with many events and leadership courses. Some even said that there were girls swooning over me (exaggerated I know). Before I continue, I need to state something very clearly; “There is a huge difference between a FRIEND and a FAN”To be honest, the perspective of me having friends is a very wrong. To have true friends is something which is rather difficult for a person like me. In class, I am mostly alone at the front. A table which can accommodate 7-8 people comfortably and I am the only one sitting there. Even if the class is packed to the brim, latecomers would be much obliged to squeeze 10 people into a row rather than sitting with me. Don’t believe me? Here’s a sample of how it looks like (forgive me if the photo is not clear).Didn’t really manage to get …

Amo La Boca y VibeHero

#foodology #foodporn #eventoftheday #ihavenoideawhyamiwritinghashtagswhicharesofreakinglong Now that I got those hashtags out of my system, I am writing this post to commemorate a truly unique event hosted recently. It was a joint event by VibeHero and one of the trendiest Latino Restaurants in Malaysia (my opinion), “La Boca.” The event took place at The Pavilion Shopping Mall, one of KL’s glitziest and most luxury shopping malls (insert awe-struck expression here). Even paying the parking fees is a challenge. Now back to the important bit.Finding this restaurant may be a bit difficult as the location is not the most revealing one (ie: smacked in the middle of the malls centre court). You first need to go through the open atrium adjacent to the main complex itself. As you walk until you are almost at the end (heading towards Wisma Cosway), you will see a set of escalators and a place called, “Tom, Dick and Harry’s.” La Boca is directly next to it. Why describe the location. Honestly …

A Wonderful Surprise

Saturday, 8th September 2013, was supposed to be a usual weekend hangout with Terry and Eunice. After a hard week at work, it comes with no surprise that I was dying for a little rest and recuperation. I arrived at Pavilion in the afternoon after a half day at the office. As usual, I am the first one to be there. Won’t blame them though. Both Terry and Eunice were fighting traffic to get to Pavilion. That’s life in Kuala Lumpur. So, while waiting, I decided to take some photos. The view as you enter the main entrance of Pavilion Shopping CentreThe main fountain that greets customers as they enter Pavilion. The opposing end from the escalators facing the main entranceI soon Whatsapp’d them and I was told to meet them on the top floor of Pavilion near a Starbucks by the cinema. I felt something amiss but perhaps they were going there to collect the tickets. I obliged without much hesitation. Along the way up, managed to get some other shots as well.Top Floor – The rays from the sun compl…

Ripping Off an Entire Population

JULY 2013 – THE INSANITY BEGINSI presume that by now, most of the world is familiar with tiny, yellow creatures known as minions. Who those who don’t, they look like that:The recent release of Despicable Me 2 proved to be a highly acclaimed sequel but this time, it brought in many new effects of love, life and sacrifice. Don’t wish to spoil the movie for those who have yet to watch it. However, one of the main factors highlighted is of course, the yellow minions. These cute and bumbling creatures carry out orders without question but more importantly, they bring a laugh to the audience. The effect left behind by these guys leave more than just humour but opens up an entirely new window to the:“BUSINESS AND MARKETING WORLD”One of the most successful corporations to cash in on these marketing superstars was the McDonald’s Corporation, purchasing the rights to produce these toys as complements to their Happy Meals. In the past, McDonald’s released the Hello Kitty toy at the peak of its c…
