Never Hurt the Ones You Truly Love

There's one sad truth in life I've found
While journeying east and west -
The only folks we really wound
Are those we love the best.
We flatter those we scarcely know,
We please the fleeting guest,
And deal full many a thoughtless blow
To those who love us best.
~Ella Wheeler Wilcox
The sadness of this reality sinks in like a tonne of bricks. How can one actually be so blind? It's only when you finally realise this when you begin to cherish the one you love. It's a sad and vicious circumstance which occurs too many. By that time, you would have reached the end of the line. Your loved one has been battered beyond recognition. You no longer see the person you fell in love with in front of you. You see a cold, expressionless human, the glimmer in the eyes begs to know why you could have been so heartless. The spark of love has died, buried under tonnes and tonnes of bad memories and hatred. You try to make amends to fix the problem. You have regretted all your actions, asked f…

It’s a Cold World for the Guys

With a towering presence and an imposing stature, you could see him from half a mile out. He holds his head up in society, a handshake firmer than a wrench clamp and a smile, wit and humour like no other. His life seemed perfect, governing the respect of the biggest names in the community. He supersedes all others in terms of intelligence, power and more importantly life standing. They knew him as the gridiron warrior for a reason. He was a person who was calm and strong to face any situation, regardless of how demanding the situation got.He was a favourite of the society, able to start the best of conversations and ending the worst of nightmares. He was a pillar of hope for some and an arch rival for many. He was so prone to stress, that the society though that it was humanly impossible to handle it. Still, he proved them wrong, unmoved by the stress and developing his sense of humour along the way.As time passes, something seemed amiss. He began to behave strangely. At times, he woul…

My Little Sister is All Grown Up

The sad but inconvenient truth is that I had to know this through Facebook. How ironic, the thing which actually brought people closer could actually lead to ones eventual downfall. But the reason I am writing this post is not to express distraught (like how I usually do) but to rejoice. The status blared across my Facebook News Feed:“Tricia Gan is in a relationship with Leong Chia How” Tonnes of comments swooped across the page as if it were greased lightning. A bit ‘paiseh’ that I was one of the last to give my congratulations. After more than 3/4 of a year since you became my lil’ sis, you finally got into a relationship with a person whom you truly love and I am sure he will love you just the same. Goodness gracious, time does really fly. It seems like just yesterday you were pestering me with your adorable little smile and big bulbous eyes. As much as those seem like a pain in my neck but they made me grew fonder each time. You really behaved uniquely as opposed to many others. Y…

Onward to AMERICA!!!

AMERICA!!! Land of the free and home of the brave. That’s what they all say. Well, it’s been precisely 1.5 years since I first heard of the American University Transfer Programme (AUP) in INTI International University. Quite an interesting programme filled with interesting individuals. Seriously, it’s you all of you who make this programme worth joining. Though we may not have been the closest of buddies or even friends who hang out 24/7, it was everyone of you who made quite an impact in my life.Hence, in your journey to a foreign land, allow me to dedicate this post about you in my perspective. I’m sorry if what I have written is not to your liking but please do accept my most humblest apologies. In addition to that, congratulations on the opportunity of furthering your education overseas. You all have definitely earned it.Well now, without further ado:Darren Cheah, you seriously have brains which pack one hell of a punch but yet, you look extremely calm and relaxed. I still don’t r…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JON JON!!!

Today is a very special occasion and it’s barely even 2 days since my previous post. Anyway, there is only a few minutes left before the day ends but I would like to say:It’s that time of the year again, big guy^^Jonathan Teh, my brother who is half my mass and weight but with a heart that outweighs mine by tenfold no, a hundred folds. I guess that everything isn’t dependent on size and strength. Sometimes, even the smallest people have the biggest hearts (go watch Captain America!). In addition to that, I don’t reckon I’ve ever seen you sad before, only happy, bouncing around everywhere with your signature, “LOL!”. It’s true that it’s already a year since you left for America and my oh my, does time really fly…oops…I mean, does time really crawl. This one year has been a real testing phase. I lost friends and family but gained new ones along the way. It’s true that I’ll never be able to be you or come close to what you have done. You gave me a family away from my family (home away fr…

The Girl of Little Words but Many Thoughts

It’s that time of year again, but it’s not the one where I say, “Oh damn! I’m so sick and fed-up of this.” Before I continue, I would like to show you something:Ain’t that the cutest cake you have ever seen? That’s right folks. It’s the birthday of a very special girl to my heart. So, I’d like to give a really loud shoutout:HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY DEAREST CATHERINE!!My oh my, does time really fly by faster than the speed of sound. Nay, the speed of light I have to say. It seems like just yesterday when we celebrated the birthdays of the August babies and today, another year has passed. Don’t feel old though. With age comes great wisdom (that’s why grandmothers know the best. XD Joking only). What amazes me is your progress since last year. You are a girl who everyone knows as a girl of little words but many thoughts as the title of this post suggests. You were always a person who was never the socialite but you always had what you wanted to say inside your mind. Throughout the year, what re…

Crazy over….PIRATES?

Come on GSC!!! I starred angrily at the computer waiting for the reservation window to open. Finally, after 20 minutes of frustrating page refreshing, I finally managed to reserve 2 tickets to watch Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at Mid Valley. This was on Friday, 20th May 2011, at 12.00am. On the 22nd of May, 2011, I boarded a train to Mid Valley at about 9.45am (after waiting for more than 1 friggin’ hour for our ‘beloved’ and ‘reliable’ KTM) en route to Serdang to meet my dearest Catherine. Reached Mid Valley at about 11.00am. From there, we went straight to collect the tickets and had a really awesome and delicious sandwich breakfast. Later, it was a walk around Mid Valley to which we stumbled upon a big surprise when we arrived at the Centre Court. This is what we saw:I would have to say: BOAT!!!!I know that that Pirates of the Caribbean is a really big blockbuster flick and all but is this really necessary? According to HSBC, IT IS NECESSARY!!! Why? Well, this leads…

The Gap Between 2 Worlds

Well, I was scrolling through the web as well as Facebook and I seem to run across pages and pages of articles mentioning expressions of girls and what they really mean (ie: Go ahead = I dare you. Not a permission. Don’t do it). Hell, I even found them in my e-mail inbox (among other crap) which begs this question to be asked, “Why do it?”I mean, of all of hem I have read, I have not seen one that has ever placed a boy as the protagonist. We have never been the protagonist in any of them but more accurately, we are seen as the antagonist. Every time a girls feelings are hurt is because the antagonist had something to do with it. Every time there is an argument, the antagonist started it. Every time the toilet seat is up, it’s the antagonist’s fault………ok, maybe it’s our fault on the last bit. But this begs another question to be asked. “Why is it our fault?”It is quite common for individuals of the feminine side to say that it is as close to intolerable to live with us. But is it reall…

My Boy, You Are Now A Man

Since I’m on semester break, I can’t help but dish out all the old photos in the album to have a look. One thing which caught my eye was a person I use to tease a lot. He used to be ‘bashful Barry’, finding every reason to hide from anyone and everyone whom he is not acquainted to. One picture which caught my eye was this one:Observe the gentleman to the left.Yup, today, I’m going to talk about:MY BABY BROTHER!!!The photo above was taken in 2007 along Gurney Drive, Penang. My younger brother was plump, bashful and a complete antisocial. He would never mix with anyone he didn’t know. He never participated in any activities be it in school or out of school. Sigh! It was a real heartache to see him like that. I was worried he would be an antisocial for life. Honestly, I took pride in myself back then, being the head of many clubs and societies, sociable and just plain extroverted. My baby brother was the complete opposite of me back then. Physically plump and slightly unfit, I prayed eve…

The God of Thunder

Fellow readers, a movie which I would recommend all of you to watch is this: Went to Mid Valley Megamall on the 6th of may 2011 (Friday) with the intention to watch Fast Five. Left INTI at about 4.30pm and arrived at 5.30pm. Waited in line to buy the ticket for about 35 minutes. Yes, I didn’t manage to make prior reservations so guess what, it was all sold out (next time, I’m getting the damn Eon Card). Anyway, I was stuck with no idea of what to watch. Catherine was by my side and she saw the hatred glow of anger in my eyes. Asking if Thor was ok with her, she agreed. Best part about it was she insisted on paying for the tickets as an early birthday present for me^^ In total, we spend RM 26 on the tickets only, FOR 2 PEOPLE!! (things are really getting more expensive) I felt ashamed at myself. I was a person who could never lose. No matter what the challenge was, I was willing to push myself to insurmountable limits in order to achieve the greatest of challenges. Not even when my he…

The Tale of Three Boys and a Hill

Well, firstly, what I am going to say is not much of an epic plan but more practically a symbolic  event. But before heading in that direction, let’s head towards the direction of how it all began. As you all probably know, my brother, Loo Lip Yong is flying off to America in about 2 months time. Yes, a big congratulations to him for being admitted into Wisconsin-Madison to pursue his dreams of becoming ‘The Wall Street Builder’.The soon to be, ‘Wall Street Builder’Well, I was heading back to Ipoh on the 10th of May 2011. And Lip Yong’s exam would only finish on the 9th. Yeah, this would be his last semester in INTI International University and before I leave for semester break, it was logical to go out with a bang. So, the suggestion for a hiking expedition was chosen. Location: Broga Hill, Kampung Broga, Negeri Sembilan Time: 5.00 am Date: 10th May 2011 Met up at 5 am as agreed at Block C. Sad to say, I was the one who was late because I had to look for some protection. Basically, we we…
